    PostHeaderIcon Durian vs. Jackfruit (langka)

Which of these two fruits you like to eat? I would prefer the jack fruit. It’s my favorite. I love the smell, sweet and juicy taste. To cover is not as fuzzy or sharp as durian. I like Durian but I have to hold my breath when eating it because of the foul odor.

Jackfruit leaves are oblong, oval, or elliptic in form, 4 to 6 inches in length, leathery, glossy, and deep green in color. Juvenile leaves are lobed. And all parts contain a sticky, white latex.

It can be eaten unripe (young) when cooked, or ripe uncooked. The seeds may be boiled or baked like beans. The leaves are used as a wrapping for steamed
    Origin:
The jackfruit is believed indigenous to the rain forests of the Western Ghats of India. It spread early on to other parts of India, southeast Asia, the East Indies and ultimately the Philippines. It is often planted in central and eastern Africa and is fairly popular in Brazil and Surinam.

Durian is widely known and revered in southeast Asia as the “king of fruits”, the durian is distinctive for its large size, unique odour, and formidable thorn-covered husk. Its shape ranges from oblong to round, the colour of its husk green to brown, and its flesh pale yellow to red, depending on the species. The flesh can be consumed at various stages of ripeness and the seeds can also be eaten when cooked.

The unusual flavour and odour of the fruit have prompted many people to express diverse and passionate views ranging from deep appreciation to intense disgust.

Its leaves are oval or lance-head-shaped and arranged alternately. The upper surface is smooth and glossy. The lower part is covered with scales and hairs. The flowers are whitish and greenish white. The fruit is green to brownish in color, shaped like a globe or egg.

One of the many fruits that I so miss of eating and it’s only in the Philippines. Well, there are some of this kind of fruits in other places in Asia though. I was jealous when I saw this picture in my sister FB. They went to my Grand mothers farm and picked some few vegies and fruits.

Jackfruit- is the national fruit of Bangladesh. It is well suited to tropical lowlands and a species of tree in the mulberry family. Its fruit is the largest tree-borne fruit in the world.

Jackfruit is commonly used in South and Southeast Asian cuisines. Outside of its countries of origin, fresh jackfruit can be found at Asian food markets especially in Philippines. It can be eaten unripe (young) when cooked, or ripe uncooked. The seeds may be boiled or baked like beans. The leaves are used as a wrapping for steamed idlis.
